An Open Letter

Dear Learned Indian,

I hope you will help me sort out a few things in my head. I watch you on TV, read of you in the papers and see you on the roads. Your confidence and knowledge shines through in your opinions that you so generously share with everyone. I am sure that you will help me figure out the following:

1. Why do you get angry when Indian boys are beaten up in Australia, but you think it's good fun to tease or molest young white girls when they come to your country? Pardon me for asking, but isn't the saying 'Atithi Devo Bhava' and not 'Atithi Babe Bhava'?

2. On one hand you have very high expectations from your cricket team and do not tolerate any mistakes or losses. At the same time you continue to vote for the same corrupt criminals. I mean, aren't they both an overpaid bunch of people who under perform, and yet have an exaggerated sense of their own importance?

3. You talk of Indian culture, or should I Bharatiya Sanskriti, yet you love to see semi naked women gyrating obscenely in the Swiss Alps in your movies. How many of you actually go for Indian plays or dance performances? I'll bet you haven't read Kalidas, but can recall at least a few words from Shakespeare?

4. Why do you smirk when the Pakistani army fights in the Swat valley, yet change the channel when the news reports another Naxalite attack in some district? Is it really true that one country's problem is a civil war and the other's is just a domestic issue? Or is that starved tribals and their children are not from your India and so shouldn't disturb your comfortable world?

5. Why are you so impatient when you drive your car and honk all the time, and yet you don't mind waiting for hours when you to a Government office? Does honking actually make traffic move faster? And do babus really deserve your respect?

These are just a few things that came to mind. I see you offering, what must be, informed opinions all the time on TV and any other public forums so I guess you are far wiser than I. Please enlighten me, oh scion of an ancient and glorious land.

Yours Logically,
A Confused Indian

PS: Except for the first point, I am as guilty as any of all the points I have raised. Am not casting stones, am just looking in the mirror.

Dear Logically Confused.

I think instead of looking in the mirror we need to introspect.
Pne more thing I wish to add is something again we proudly practice, the phenomenon of "your duty and my rights".

Our morals, ethics, civil sense are living on life support I think they are clinically dead.

Plus I dont think the Media shows us what we want to see, they show us what they want us to see.

Surely we have our own concerns, and most things that directly affect us seem to be very conveniently swept of under the carpet.

Jai Hind.

I agree with you dude... 'Your Duty, My Rights' is all about taking and not giving anything in return.

The media is a joke, especially the TV channels. They've forgotten that they are supposed to be journalists. And turned into rabble rouser's instead.

Let's hope that things get better.

Jai Hind to you too.

hey confused desi........
as u say.....al is true....but with hard facts.....lets go one by one
1.root cause is TV....a normal guy's reaction has never been so loud earlier.....n its all bout the cut throat competetion which exists between TV channels.....they have to act and then react instantly on ne news they can jump on.....for last 10 days everyone is talking about racial behavior, specially students abroad....believe it or nt.....it has been there always...n al kind of incidents....well molestation is something which has to be condemned in al possible ways.....
2.Atleast crickters sweat out to get some importance, why do we have to see amrita arora's sangeet program and aish's wedding dress collection. Politicians of course dont deserve the luxuries they get....reason behind this is.....we al who write dont get in to actual indian system of working.....coz we dnt have ne interactions with them and its very easy to give a verdict......but the internal buisness depends on thm....n thts y they get selected by the people whose intrests are vested in them. Still i agree tht they are the worst lot of VIP's in our country...
3.Sanskriti is nowhere related to movies or nething of that kind.....n there are big time hypocrites who misuse the "hamari sanskriti" tag.
4.Pakistan ofcourse is a subject of special attention. Forget swat, even in cricket if they win T20 by chance, i'll be hurt.About indian tribals its one of the million problems we have and all deserve to be looked after. Que is by whom.....i have got a big frnd circle....we all talk about welfare....but i havnt came across a single person who went to tribal area just to see the real india....
5.Car honking, evry one does tht....i bet all of us....but yeah its wrong....infact i used to do it alot in traffic. Only reduced when i drove abroad.

so my dear confused indian frn......conclusion-we all are confused and pretend to be learned.....
